Job summary

Barnsley Hospital NHS FT is seeking a Maternity Inpatient Matron to join the senior maternity leadership team on a 6-month secondment. The role suits an experienced Ward Manager, Senior Midwife or existing Matron aiming to broaden leadership within a busy maternity service.

You will provide visible professional leadership across inpatient maternity areas, ensuring safe, high-quality, personalised care for women and families, while supporting staff wellbeing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our senior maternity leadership team as Maternity Inpatient Matron on a 6-month secondment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ward Manager, Senior Midwife, Labour Ward Coordinator or existing Matron looking to broaden their leadership experience within a busy and forward-thinking maternity service.

As Maternity Inpatient Matron, you will provide visible professional leadership across our inpatient maternity areas, supporting the delivery of safe, personalised and high-quality care for women, birthing people and their families. You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure that services meet local and national quality standards, whilst creating an environment where staff feel valued, supported and empowered to achieve their potential.

Main duties of the job

Provide operational and professional leadership across maternity inpatient services.

Lead on quality, safety and patient experience initiatives.

Support workforce planning, recruitment, retention and staff wellbeing.

Oversee governance processes, ensuring learning from incidents, complaints, audits and patient feedback is embedded into practice.

Monitor staffing, acuity and capacity to maintain safe and effective care.

Foster a positive, inclusive culture that promotes continuous improvement and compassionate leadership.

Support the delivery of key national maternity priorities, quality standards and organisational objectives.
