The Role

This role is within a close-knit and supportive finance function and will play a pivotal role in producing accurate financial reporting and supporting strategic decision-making across the business. Working closely with the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will be involved in day-to-day financial operations and help drive improvements in processes and reporting.

As the Management Accountant, your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing timely and accurate monthly management accounts, with commentary and analysis.
  • Reconciling key balance sheet accounts including cash, prepayments, accruals, and fixed assets.
  • Providing expenditure analysis versus budget/forecast, highlighting variances and contributing to cost control.
  • Supporting the annual budget and monthly forecasting process.
  • Supervising the Purchase Ledger team (2 assistants) and overseeing supplier payments and reconciliations.
  • Managing credit card and expense processing in line with company policy.
  • Supporting audit preparation and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
  • Contributing to cross-departmental collaboration including onboarding of new suppliers/customers.
  • Driving continuous improvement and sharing knowledge within the finance team.
Candidate Requirements

To be considered, you should have:

  • Proven experience in a management accounting role, ideally within a commercial environment.
  • Strong understanding of core finance processes and reporting requirements.
  • Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACCA/CIMA/CA), or qualified by experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, data analysis functions).
  • Confident communication skills—able to explain financial data clearly to non-finance colleagues.
  • Proactive, adaptable, collaborative, with strong organisational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Purchase-to-Pay systems is desirable.
Offer Details

This is a part-time (30 hours per week), permanent role based in Edinburgh, with hybrid working (1 day per week in the office). The role offers:

  • Flexible working pattern (spread across 4 or 5 days to suit you).
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, with additional service days after 5 years.
  • Pension contributions (3% employee, 6% employer).
  • Life assurance (5x salary).
  • Bonus scheme of up to 10%.
  • Four-week notice period.
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven workplace.
