Job description

Duration: 10 months fixed term due to funding constraints. Start date – Monday 2nd June 2025.

Hours: 35 hours per week

RCA Trust is an independent voluntary organisation based in Paisley and a registered charity established in 1978. Our mission is to seek to limit the effects of alcohol, drugs and gambling issues on the individual, their families, and the wider community by providing a range of evidence-based services, interventions, and activities. We achieve this by providing one to one counselling, education, information, training, policy development and the empowerment of personal choice. We believe that with the right support recovery is available to all and that people do recover and progress with their lives.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This is a unique opportunity to work within the RCA Trust in conjunction with a wide range of partners across the Renfrewshire Locality. Based with the RCA Trust and working in partnership with the Renfrewshire Housing Support Team to provide Intensive Housing Support to a broad and diverse population affected by alcohol issues and gambling harms. To promote empowerment, enablement, positive decision making and promote recovery-based strategies where appropriate across the Renfrewshire community.

POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION

Reports to the Accommodations Principal in the RCA Trust. Point of contact with service users and a range of partner services and community resources.

SCOPE OF THE JOB

To support individuals affected by alcohol and gambling harms maintain and sustain their own tenancy, reducing the impact on wider housing and community-based assets.

QUALIFICATIONS

To ideally have an SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or the motivation to work towards gaining it. Previous experience working within a housing support service would be preferable; training will be given.

SPECIFIC DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  1. To build positive relationships with a range of partners across Renfrewshire.
  2. To work with local partners to provide onward referral, partnership working and a holistic approach to address any identified housing issues for individuals experiencing alcohol or gambling harms.
  3. To establish and maintain standards of conduct and boundaries at all times.
  4. To promote independent living where appropriate with individuals affected by alcohol and gambling harms.
  5. To complete all mandatory training requirements associated with the services.
  6. To refer clients to other services within the area and external service providers as required.
  7. To work as part of a wider team within the recovery-based community.
  8. To work individually where required and be accountable for individual decision making.
  9. To actively participate in supervision and appraisal.
  10. To develop and maintain professional working relationships with all partners related to the project.
  11. To adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures associated with the post.
  12. To ensure that all aspects of confidentiality are always adhered to.
  13. To ensure all Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion practices are fully implemented and to promote our ongoing commitment to and value of diversity.
  14. To maintain the integrity of our electronic records and management information systems.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SKILLS

The post-holder will possess some or all the following characteristics and skills:

  1. Good general level of education including Maths and English.
  2. Confident in working with individuals from a range of diverse backgrounds.
  3. Confident in interacting with individuals who may be under the influence of alcohol.
  4. Competent when using information technology and online communication channels.
  5. A good knowledge of barriers and challenges associated with individuals accessing recovery routes.
  6. A good knowledge of recovery and care pathways for access to recovery-based services.
  7. The ability to liaise with other partner services and interested parties.
  8. The ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  9. Good organisational and communication skills.
  10. To be able to work in a holistic and empathetic manner towards those affected by alcohol and gambling harms.
  11. To be able to work in a flexible and adaptable manner.
  12. Be able to demonstrate the commitment to work with individuals in a patient and calm manner.
  13. To maintain a high level of record keeping associated with the post.
  14. To support recovery in all areas across the Renfrewshire area.

CONDITIONS

This position is subject to two satisfactory professional, written references, one of which is preferable from the last employer. Evidence of the right to work in the UK. This position is subject to an Enhanced Protecting Vulnerable Groups Check (PVG). Particular consideration will be given to veterans or military leavers and their families.
