Job description

Job Title: 3.5 Tonne Driver / Loader
Location: Hayedown Depot
Positions Available: 3
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: Shift pattern including weekends and early starts (rota-based)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Job Purpose:

To carry out the safe and efficient collection of waste and recycling materials from domestic and commercial properties using a 3.5 tonne vehicle. This is a dual-role position involving both driving and manual loading duties as part of a frontline waste and recycling collection service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive a 3.5 tonne vehicle in accordance with road traffic legislation and company policies.

• Load and unload waste and recycling materials manually, ensuring correct handling procedures.

• Work as part of a small collection crew, following set routes and schedules.

• Complete daily vehicle checks and report any faults or defects.

• Maintain accurate paperwork or use handheld devices to record collections.

• Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.

• Interact respectfully and professionally with members of the public.

• Keep the vehicle clean and tidy and ensure it is operated in a safe and responsible manner.

• Work flexibly across different collection routes as required.

• Support weekend operations as part of a rota-based shift pattern.

Essential Requirements:

• Full UK driving licence (Category B up to 3.5 tonnes).

• Physically fit and able to carry out manual loading tasks over the course of a full shift.

• Willingness to work weekends and flexible hours as part of a shift pattern.

• Good understanding of health and safety practices.

• Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.

Desirable:

• Previous experience in waste collection, recycling, or similar outdoor manual work.

• Familiarity with Hayedown and the surrounding area.
