Qualifications
- Experience in the custodial trade preferred.
- Knowledgeable of building infrastructure, including boilers, heating, ventilation, air conditioning units, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems, with appropriate district-provided training.
- Ability to perform custodial duties required of a physically demanding job.
- Certification of good health signed by a medical professional; further medical review may be required through a school-appointed physician.
- Ability to pass mandated trainings such as OSHA requirements.
- A sense of humor and ability to work politely and friendly with staff, students, and the educational community.
- Knowledge of SchoolDude work order system preferred with district training.
- Any other job-related qualifications deemed appropriate by the School Department.
Reports To
Head Custodian, Director of Facilities, and the Building Principal or designee.
Job Goals
To provide students and staff with a safe, comfortable, and functional environment; assist in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds; adapt to changing technologies with training provided.
Performance Responsibilities
- Ensure routine cleanliness, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting during assigned shifts.
- Perform manual labor related to cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds, including floor care, cleaning windows, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
- Use hand and power tools, materials, and methods standard to custodial and maintenance trades.
- Maintain sidewalks, driveways, entry, and play areas, ensuring they are clean and safe.
- Work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts with proper certifications.
- Assist in operation and maintenance of building systems such as boilers, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems, with training.
- Maintain equipment and work area safety and cleanliness.
- Understand occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in various environmental conditions, including outside extremes and chemical exposure.
- Work in confined spaces, on ladders, scaffolding, or aerial lifts, with training and certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
