About the role:A new opportunity has opened for a 2nd Line IT Technician to join our dynamic IT team. This position is based at our Alderley Park site and will require regular visits to our nearby Tytherington site. This is a full-time, on-site position.
Reporting to the Global Manager, IT Operations, you’ll support all aspects of IT technology for end users, including computer systems across both scientific and business areas. The primary focus of the role is to carry out thorough troubleshooting and diagnosis of system issues leading to resolution, and to contribute to business and strategic development by providing technical insight and support. You’ll also work with the IT Security Team in responding to security incidents and investigations. Additionally, you’ll play a key role in guiding and mentoring our 1st Line Technicians. Therefore, experience working in a support role within a complex IT environment is essential.

Main duties and responsibilities:- Provide general end-user and computer support across scientific and business areas.
- Implement effective solutions to maintain operational continuity.
- Create and manage external user accounts required for remote access, such as Egnyte (Cloud file storage) collaboration folders, including access controls, folder creation, and file store management.
- Oversee and manage users, computers, and groups in Active Directory (AD) and Microsoft 365 to ensure secure and efficient access control.
- Perform vulnerability scanning and remediation as required, in collaboration with the Security team.
- Support the efficient and robust computer build processes for new hardware.
- Support the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and peripherals.
- Assist with user onboarding and offboarding processes and new starter induction.
- Perform general IT tasks to support the team and wider business.
Skills and Experience:- CompTIA Core Skills qualifications and/or Microsoft Desktop Administrator Associate certification are desirable.
- Broad general IT experience, ideally with experience managing and supporting users and computers in a business setting, including Active Directory, Office 365, and a range of operating systems and applications.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
- Good awareness of IT and Data security requirements and best practices.
- Logical thinking with good prioritization, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Confident communication and customer service skills.
- While not essential, a full driving license and car ownership are desirable due to the need to support both Cheshire sites.
