2nd Level Application Support Engineer
We are looking for an experienced technical engineer to join our growing Equities business.
The platform you will be responsible for is used by multiple trading desks servicing a diverse set of clients and instruments.
As part of the wider platform team, you will work closely with Developers, as well as technical, analysis, and testing colleagues.
Investigation and resolution of work items will require competent technical skills and a keen intellect.
The business is a growth area, with current investments across technology, business, and middle office domains.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor application components.
- Provide global support, including weekend availability to troubleshoot production issues and perform checkouts.
- Operate in Windows and Linux environments with proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, Python, etc.
- Utilize configuration management systems like Ansible.
- Have strong knowledge of CI tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a diverse, energetic environment.
- Debug systems and resolve production-related issues.
- Handle complex operational tasks and recommend process and technology improvements.
- Build monitoring tools for production environments.
- Support the deployment of new systems, capacity planning, and support for growing volumes.
- Understand networking and storage concepts.
- Escalate or follow up on permanent fixes for development issues.
- Develop solutions for application automation.
- Communicate system and application outages to end users as needed.
- Resolve complex application and technical problems.
- Build, test, and deploy software across Dev, QA, and Production/Disaster Recovery environments.
- Support activities involving analysis, design, development, and testing of application components.
Desired Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
- At least 3+ years of experience as a Support Analyst within the Financial industry.
- Proficiency in Windows and Linux environments with scripting skills in Shell, Perl, Python, etc.
- Basic understanding of infrastructure concepts.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools like Bamboo or Jenkins.
- Hands-on experience supporting real-time trading environments.
- Knowledge of support applications utilizing high-performance messaging/middleware.
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the FIX protocol.
- Development skills in Java, C#, or C++ are a plus.

The position is based in the City of London.
The contract duration is 12 months.
The daily rate is approximately £400.
