Position Description:

One (1) Permanent-Exempt, full-time (40 hours/week), school-term only (200 days/year position). A school-term only (STO) employee is hired for a specific work calendar and may not have an assignment during the school/academic break. Exempt employees are considered “at will” and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

Under direction of an assigned supervisor, the School Lunchroom Helper provides support to the food service activities with specific responsibilities for maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen areas and serving utensils including pots, pans, trays and other items; cooks food items; prepares and serves a variety of foods; and keeps records of sales and purchases.

Position may involve exposure to extreme temperature conditions and chemicals while working in a noisy environment; standing for long periods of time; bending, crouching and reaching. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs to waist level.

Job Duties:

1. Cleans equipment, pots and pans, serving utensils and food preparation and serving areas (e.g.serving trays, equipment, storage, tables in eating areas, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary and food safety conditions.2. Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas in a sanitary condition for thepurpose of complying with current health standards.3. Monitors and serves food items (e.g. salad bars, salad bars, sandwiches, soups, grain and noodledishes, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining high-quality food standards (appetizing, appealing, andhigh in nutritive value), meeting portion control standards, and maintaining food items in a safemanner.4. Prepares food items for meals and bag lunches for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.5. Participates in meetings (e.g. unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.6. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effectivefunctioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Possession of high school diploma or equivalent; AND

2. Six (6) months of routine kitchen work experience including use of a computer and point of sale software.

License and Certificate:

Possession and maintenance of a current Food Safety certification.

Supplemental Information:

1. Applicants must be willing to wear uniforms, slip resistant shoes, be neat, clean, and reliable.

2. Must be able to lift 50lbs waist high, work in hot humid conditions.

Note: College Work Student and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU. This agreement will allow District students to take advantage of employment opportunities.

Desirable Qualifications:

Prior experience with or had HACCP (Hazard analysis and critical control points) training.

New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).

Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full-year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
