Job summary

NHS Lothian is recruiting a Band 7 Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) to join the Critical Care Team at St John's Hospital. You will lead specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with complex critical care needs, while supporting education and staff development.

Working in a highly skilled MDT, you will promote Home First principles, contribute to discharge planning, and enhance patient flow with senior clinical leadership and mentorship.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join the Critical Care Team at St John's Hospital as a Band 7 Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP).

Working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients with complex critical care needs. The role will focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred care while supporting early rehabilitation, recovery, patient flow, and safe discharge planning. The successful candidate will also play an important role in the education, supervision, and development of staff, supporting students, junior colleagues, and the wider multidisciplinary team through teaching, mentorship, and the promotion of evidence-based practice.

You will champion Home First principles and liaise collaboratively with wider acute and community partners to support seamless patient journeys and maximise independence.

St John's Hospital is recognised within NHS Lothian for providing specialist regional services, including Burns Treatment and Plastic Surgery, offering the opportunity to work alongside expert clinicians and gain experience in complex clinical pathways.
