Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a catering support member to assist with the preparation, cooking and service of meals for patients, staff and visitors. You will work across catering areas, ensuring hygiene, safety and compliance with policies and HACCP.

Full on-site role with induction and ongoing training, including PaMOVA and mandatory NHS training. Generous annual leave and pension benefits are provided; community-focused hospital catering is part of a larger healthcare network.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of catering standards and related procedures.
  • Ability to undertake on the job training and induction (4–6 weeks).
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessment requirements.
  • PaMOVA training level 1 and 2 may be required after risk assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation, production, heating and reheating of food for patients and staff.
  • Prepare items using basic cooking techniques (porridge, breakfast items, soup, sandwiches).
  • Move and decant food items in pack sizes; manage trolleys and equipment.
  • Maintain food hygiene standards and complete required records (DWCS).
  • Clean all areas of the catering department and equipment.

The Role

Working as part of Catering team to deliver a range of food and beverages in line with Food Hygiene legislation and NHS Lanarkshire policies and procedures to meet the nutritional needs of Patients, Staff, and users of NHS Lanarkshire services. To work alongside and support new staff in the working environment.

In This Key Role, You Will

Assist in the preparation, production, heating and reheating of food for patients, staff, visitors. To produce items using basic cooking techniques e.g. porridge, breakfast items, soup, sandwich, salads. To pick, pack, decant food items in required pack sizes. To work in all areas of the catering department including freezers, fridges and cold rooms. To load and unload food, beverage trolleys manoeuvring in a range of locations. Perform tasks wearing the correct uniform and protective clothing at all times. Maintaining food hygiene standards and records as required to comply with statutory obligations and HACCP. To clean all areas of the catering department and equipment, and undertake in line with the Daily Weekly Cleaning Schedules (DWCS) recording and signing off the required records using paper or electronic equipment.

What You'll Bring

Knowledge of catering standards and related procedures. Required to undertake on the job training and induction (this will generally take 4-6 weeks, depending on hours/days worked), to achieve full competency across a range of duties. Working knowledge Health & Safety including participation in risk assessing individual tasks. Required to undertake Prevention, Assessment & Management of Violence of Aggression (PaMOVA) training level 1 and level 2, if identified following an appropriate risk assessment. Undertake NHS Lanarkshire compulsory training.
