Role & responsibilities:
As an apprentice machinist, the candidate will be learning to manufacture seamless steel cylinders and cylinder components on a variety of CNC & Manual machines, including DMG NLX CNC Lathe, DMG DMF CNC Mill, XYZ CNC lathe as well as varies manual lathes and milling machines, whilst undergoing your training which is a mixture of full-time at the AMRC training centre, followed by day release and on-the-job training.
Once qualified, the candidate will operate the above machines while performing in-process inspection checks, producing high-quality products in a safe and controlled manner, meeting all quality specifications, whilst satisfying productivity requirements and in compliance with engineering drawings and associated specifications. Ensure that equipment is maintained, relevant records are up to date and that all processes work effectively to ensure that the business can fulfil its aims.
You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
