Job description

Completion of the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships offers nationally recognized qualifications acknowledged and respected by employers worldwide. These qualifications can open doors to opportunities such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across various sectors.

Role & Responsibilities
  1. Engineering: Manufacture prototypes for visualization and testing purposes;
  2. Carry out machining on milling machines and lathes;
  3. Perform additive manufacturing using available resources;
  4. Manage outsourcing of complex machining tasks;
  5. Ensure prototypes are of high quality;
  6. Support the production of prototype designs based on experimentation results;
  7. Research alternative solutions and document findings; brainstorm and design potential solutions;
  8. Sourcing components from bill of materials;
  9. Oversee preparation and finalization of experimental investigations, including understanding risk assessments, preparing labs, and packing away materials;
  10. Support experimental investigations by sourcing materials, conducting tests, recording data, and maintaining documentation;
  11. Analyze and report experimental results, including data processing and plotting results in Excel, assisting with report writing, and ensuring data is well documented and archived;
  12. Perform practical work safely, following procedures to ensure quality and safety, recording results accurately, and complying with H&S regulations;
  13. On-site work including creating method statements, risk assessments, packing lists, and supporting industrial visits;
  14. Manage suppliers to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of parts that meet specifications, providing progress updates and attending regular meetings;
  15. Maintain a safe and healthy working environment by creating risk assessments and reporting issues;
  16. Conduct work professionally, including appropriate attire and communication;
  17. Assist with other tasks, such as managing the laboratory or office on a rota basis, organizing shipping, and ensuring safety and cleanliness;
  18. Participate actively in team meetings and discussions to contribute to company improvements.

You will undertake a Level 6 Manufacturing Engineer degree apprenticeship on a Maintenance Technology pathway, culminating in a Degree Level 6 qualification in Engineering.

Initially, during the first year, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre at Catcliffe, Rotherham, with full-time study during initial blocks. Subsequently, you will attend the Training Centre one day a week for ongoing knowledge study.

You will work Monday to Friday, with start and finish times, including shift patterns, determined by the employer.
