Job overview

This is a varied and practical role where you will be supporting our front-line nursing staff to deliver great patient care. Your responsibilities will vary from setting up equipment for our sleep apnoea patients, ensuring they have a supply of consumables, managing and ordering stock for the service and so much more. You will work closely with the nursing team to book clinics, respond to patient enquiries and work within our closely knit team of c.10 administrative staff. We are a small team and empowered to work on our own initiative and support each other to provide resilience across the service ensuring patients are our first priority.

Main duties of the job

Meet and greet patients and their carers, dealing with patient inquiries on the telephone and in person, providing non-clinical information.

Order, allocate and set up CPAP equipment for patients, posting items where necessary.

Continue and participate in staff meetings, working groups and multi-disciplinary clinical meetings to maintain lateral communication and update the team on equipment supply.

Record clinic attendances, update patient details on the Lorenzo patient record system and Excel and make outpatient appointments.

Maintain good working relationships with the multi-disciplinary teams within the Respiratory Department and to liaise with all other units and external stakeholders in a professional manner.

Essential/Desirable

  • •GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification
  • •Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office packages •Operational experience in a busy, costumer focused environment •Experience in customer-facing roles, for example in retail, as a receptionist, in the NHS, •Excellent people skills to be able to manage patient expectations and defuse patients’ anger
  • •Accurate word processing skills •Computer and data entry competence •Ability to effectively prioritise a highly flexible workload using sound initiative and problem-solving skills •Ability to work as a part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment •Ability to communicate effectively with all multi-disciplinary professionals across all departments, and with GP practices and other Trusts •Excellent teamwork skills to navigate scheduling issues and clinician capacity with colleagues in a highly pressurised environment •Excellent problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution in order to deliver a clinical schedule that works
  • Previous respiratory experience.
