Job Description
Serve as a member and leader of a work crew performing a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks to maintain Virginia's roadways.
How You Will Contribute
- Emergency Operations: Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergency operations. Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and assist in accident clean-up. Provide traffic control. May supervise shift operations during emergencies.
- Equipment Operation: Demonstrate skill in operating equipment safely and properly. Apply knowledge of maintenance techniques and perform repairs. Conduct pre-trip inspections.
- Job Safety: Implement site protection techniques, ensure crew safety gear, and adhere to safety regulations. Promote safety and monitor work sites for hazards.
- Leadership: Conduct on-the-job training, provide feedback, assist with administrative tasks, and serve as backup supervisor during emergencies.
- Manual Labor: Participate in manual tasks and project completion as part of the crew.
- Preventative Maintenance: Lead or perform maintenance repairs and oversee inspections.
- Traffic Control: Manage placement and removal of traffic control devices, respond to work orders, and maintain records.
- Records Management: Prepare documentation, assist with budget and expenditure tracking.
- Work Scheduling: Plan and review work activities, provide input on performance.
- Traffic Control Support: Install/remove signs, flag traffic for safety.
- Productivity Monitoring: Document activities, review contractor work, and report on progress.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.

- Basic inventory knowledge.
Additional Considerations
- Training or experience in construction or related fields preferred.
- Certifications like Tree Cutting & Chainsaw Operator, CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Experience in roadway maintenance, traffic control, and supervising crews.
