Band 5 Occupational Therapist

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy service within the Adult Learning Disabilities Service. We welcome applications from enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working individuals to join our team who are committed to developing themselves, staff and the service within Learning Disabilities.

This post is based with our Community Learning Disabilities Teams (CLDTs). The successful candidates will work with the band 6 Occupational Therapists based within the CLDT to provide assessment and intervention for adults with a Learning Disability, whose complex needs mean they cannot access mainstream services. The caseloads can include, patients with communication difficulties, dementia, mental health needs, Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, autism, and behaviours which can be seen as challenging.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and intervention for adults with a Learning Disability within the CLDT framework, supporting individuals with complex needs to access appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with band 6 Occupational Therapists and other team members to deliver care plans and interventions.
  • Apply diverse assessment approaches, including standardised OT assessments (e.g., Model of Human Occupation, Canadian Model) and assessments informed by frameworks such as Sensory Integration and Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Promote occupational performance through interventions that may include skills and engagement, equipment and adaptation, and training and support for patients, care staff teams and families.
Professional Development and Qualifications
  • Professional supervision, training and development are integral to the service.
  • You must have a Degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Applicants with transferable skills to Learning Disabilities will be supported to develop to the required level in this speciality.
