Overview

NHS Lothian invites applications for a Fixed Term, Full-time (40 hours per week) post based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to join a multi-disciplinary team in medical microbiology and contribute to an infection service covering the whole of Lothian.

Location and Rotation

The post will be based primarily in Medical Microbiology at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with rotational placements at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and at St John’s Hospital, Livingston. The post holder will play a significant role in the clinical infection diagnostic team, including provision of specialist microbiology clinical advice to inpatient and outpatient services in Lothian and participation in an on-call rota.

There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year, with extension at any of the hospitals on the rotation.

Service Context

We have excellent working relationships with clinical teams and ongoing collaboration with researchers in Edinburgh and beyond. The Lothian Microbiology service includes five Scottish reference laboratories, dealing with Mycobacteria, STEC, Bacterial Sexually-Transmitted Infections, Human Papilloma Virus and Viral Haemorrhagic Fever, with full UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accreditation.

  • This post has deanery approval for training and offers training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.
