The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. Pharmaceutical care is provided by a team of around 100 pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators, working across General Practices covering the whole of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh HSCP are increasing clinical capacity across Primary care in support of Scottish Government’s Achieving Excellence strategy and in fulfillment of the plans for a pharmacotherapy service for General Practice.
We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, and enthusiastic technician, to take forward key prescribing initiatives within GP Practices across Edinburgh.
You will work closely with GPs, other practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and central team colleagues in supporting the development and application of high quality, safe, cost effective and evidence-based prescribing in the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). You will work within GP practices, our pharmacotherapy hub, care homes and other healthcare settings to provide individualised care to patients to improve the safety and effectiveness of their medicines. You will work on joint projects/initiatives within the HSCP as required and promote awareness of prescribing management issues.
With a National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent Pharmacy Technician qualification and current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, applicants should also have significant post qualification experience. Excellent communication, IT and organisational skills are a pre-requisite and experience of medicines management and working with GPs would be an advantage. You should be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
