The Role

NHS Lanarkshire is looking to recruit a Biomedical Scientist, based within University Hospital Monklands.

As a Biomedical Scientist you will process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Pathology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples. Provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.

You will be responsible for own work using specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems and acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

  • State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
  • BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
  • Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.

It would be great if you also have

  • Specialist Portfolio in Biomedical Science (Histopathology)
  • Knowledge of laboratory IT systems
  • Car Driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence

Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 Months

Full time

37 hours

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 Months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Pathology within University Hospital Monklands.

The working pattern for this role: Mon - Fri 0830-1645
