About The Role

This is a semi-autonomous pharmacist role, where you will be the sole pharmacist based at the Astley Ainslie Hospital initially, delivering high-quality clinical pharmacy services to patients undergoing rehabilitation. While working independently as the dedicated pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team, you will also have close alignment with the wider clinical pharmacy team at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and across NHS Lothian, ensuring strong professional support and development. This service and post will move to East Lothian Community Hospital in the near future.

Astley Ainslie Hospital Provides Rehabilitation Services For Adults With

  • Acquired brain injury and stroke.
  • Orthopaedic trauma and limb amputation.
  • Progressive neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • Complex rehabilitation needs requiring specialist outpatient support.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Providing patient-centred pharmaceutical care, including medicines reconciliation, clinical review, and seamless care planning.
  • Optimising medicines use through the systematic identification and resolution of pharmaceutical care issues.
  • Collaborating closely within the multidisciplinary team, where pharmacy is a highly valued contributor to patient outcomes.
  • Delivering medicines information and patient counselling, ensuring safe and effective medication use post-discharge.
  • Contributing to service development, shaping the future of rehabilitation pharmacy services within NHS Lothian.

About You

Essential Qualifications And Experience

  • A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Completion of, or equivalent competence mapped to, the
  • Experience of proactively influencing prescribing to improve patient care and optimise medication use.
