Job summary

Join NHS Lanarkshire's Pharmacy Clinical Trials team as a Pharmacy Technician where you'll support clinical trials, manage medications, and ensure compliance with regulations. Qualifications

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team and gain experience in the delivery and support of clinical trials of investigational medicines within NHS Lanarkshire.

Job Purpose

  • To support the development and functioning of the pharmacy Clinical Trials service for NHS Lanarkshire by supporting the role of staff involved in the provision of clinical trials within the Pharmacy department and support the role of the Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

  • The post holder should have completed Good Clinical Practice Training or be working to complete this.
  • The post holder will be able to assist in the collation of clinical trials workload data to assist with capacity planning for the pharmacy Clinical Trials Service.
  • The post holder will have a National Dispensary Checking Technician Qualification (DCT) or Pharmacy Aseptic Checking Technician (PACT) or be willing to work to obtaining both qualifications
  • To support the clinical trials team ensuring clinical trials within their remit are managed in accordance with service SOPs including:Maintenance of accountability records (dispensing, receipt, returns etc.)Maintenance of clinical trial files and all other computer & written records Temperature monitoringExpiry date monitoringOrdering of clinical trial materialsDisposal and destruction of clinical trial materialsOversee the reconciliation of clinical trial materials
  • The post holder will be interacting with a variety of healthcare professionals, and as such is expected to have excellent communication skills.
  • The post holder will be required to assist in the preparation, review and implementation of Pharmacy Clinical Trials Standard Operating Procedures. Operations Manual Entries and supporting documents as part of the Quality system for the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service to support the provision of clinical trials within NHS Lanarkshire.
  • The post holder will work to support the delivery of clinical trials activities across NHS Lanarkshire e.g. to provide training or promote the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Service, but will have an identified base.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the stock control of all Clinical Trials medicines including ordering and receipt, monitoring of stock levels, reconciliation of returns, monitoring of expiry dates, investigation and rectification of discrepancies in accountability and ensuring appropriate storage conditions.
  • The post holder will be required to assist in preparing for internal and external audit including inspection by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), commercial pharmaceutical companies and other non-commercial sponsors conducting trials within NHS Lanarkshire.

What we'll need you to bring

National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent

Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Dispensary checking or aseptic checking qualification

Commitment to CPD

Minimum of 2 year post qualification experience as qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy service

Experience in providing a ward/department stock top-up service.

Experience in supervision of other staff or of a functional area of pharmacy.

Thorough understanding of hospital pharmacy services

Ability to carry out aseptic and cytotoxic drug reconstitution

Good communication skills both verbal and written

Ability to organise and prioritise work

Team player

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training

Experience working in clinical trials

Experience in environmental monitoring of medicines

Experience in handling unlicensed medicines

Understanding of requirements of clinical trial

Knowledge of clinical trials legislation

Experience in providing education / training

Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months

Full time

37 hours

Please note this is a fixed term post until for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in University Hospital Monklands

The working pattern for this role Mon-Fri; 9:00-5:00.
