The role of the Community Mental Health Nurse involves utilizing specialist clinical knowledge for decision-making and clinical judgment from initial assessment to discharge. The nurse provides specialist advice to the multidisciplinary team regarding patient management through assessment, treatment, and review planning, in partnership with patients and carers.

Responsibilities include providing advice to healthcare professionals, agencies, carers, clients, and relatives; supporting service development; implementing evidence-based standards; and providing teaching and supervision to junior staff and students.
