The Oncology Physics Department at Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC) is seeking two experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Clinical Scientists to take on the challenge of Lead Stereotactic Physicists – one specialising in intra-cranial SRS/SRT, and one in extra-cranial SBRT. The successful applicants will have proven experience in advanced Treatment Planning techniques and will manage and develop the Stereotactic Planning services for all patients at ECC. They will also play a leading role in supporting other aspects of the clinical Treatment Planning service, giving expert advice and supporting the Head of Treatment Planning in the management of the section.
Applicants must be an HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist and a RPA200 certified Medical Physics Expert. Applications will also be considered from those who have submitted their MPE application to RPA2000 and are awaiting the outcome.
You should be able to evidence project management skills and experience in implementation and development of clinical services.
The Cancer Centre has 7 Varian linacs and 2 wide-bore Philips Brilliance CT’s with motion management systems. Varian Eclipse and BrainLAB Elements are used for external beam treatment planning with ARIA as the Oncology Management system. ECC provides the National Stereotactic Service for Scotland for Benign intra-cranial lesions and provides leadership for the Scottish Oligometastatic SABR Network (SOSN). Two TrueBeams in the department have high definition MLCs and BrainLAB ExacTrac Dynamic for SRS/SBRT delivery. The department is an active participant in clinical trials and has research links to the University of Edinburgh.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
