Qualifications

2027 Commodities and Global Markets Summer Internship Programme

What role will you play?

As a Summer Intern in Commodities and Global Markets, you'll support your team on real work while gaining practical experience of a global business that combines deep industry expertise with entrepreneurial thinking. You'll learn from professionals ranging from geologists and meteorologists to engineers, data scientists, quant strategists, traders and advisers, and develop the technical skills, confidence and networks that can support your future career.

You’ll work closely with your team to support clients through tailored solutions across commodities, financial markets and asset finance, gaining insight into how we help clients navigate challenges and identify opportunities in global markets.

Our opportunities span a range of teams across Commodities and Global Market s including :

  • Quant Strategy , where you could help maintain and develop quantitative platforms and implement quantitative methods.
  • Quantitative Investment Strategies Marketing , where you could support strategy development and explanation, client mapping, marketing and outreach.
  • Business Operational Risk Management , where you could investigate incidents, support remediation and help assess the effectiveness of business controls.
  • Quantitative Investment Solutions and Structuring , where you could apply creative problem-solving to quantitative models, systems and solutions for institutional clients.
  • Non-Financial Regulatory Reporting , where you could analyse transaction reporting data, i nvestigate reporting issues and support regulatory, process and technology change.

Depending on your individual role, you could be:

  • analysing market, client, risk or regulatory data
  • developing quantitative methods, models, tools or platforms
  • translating complex financial or technical concepts into clear explanations
  • investigating issues, identifying root causes and supporting remediation
  • contributing to improvements in processes, systems and controls
  • supporting client engagement, strategy communication and outreach
  • collaborating with colleagues across trading, risk, technology, operations and other specialist teams.

Your nine-week programme will start with a tailored induction week providing you with the skills and knowledge we think you need to be successful.

As part of this programme, you’ll :

What you offer

You have a unique perspective. We want to hear it. We welcome applications from students in their penultimate year of study of an undergraduate or master's degree, or students undertaking a final year undergraduate degree and planning to continue to a master's degree, graduating in January to July 2028.

  • You are studying a discipline such as mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, economics, finance or another quantitative field of study.
  • You approach problems in a structured and creative way, have strong numerical skills and can communicate complex or technical information clearly.
  • You like to collaborate with others , are comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and can adapt as priorities change .
  • You have an interest in financial services and bring a proactive, resourceful and positive attitude, as well as a strong work ethic.
  • You are curious and eager to learn, including developing your understanding of complex products, systems or regulations, and contribute to real business outcomes .
  • You have strong attention to detail and are comfortable working with data and using relevant analytical tools .
  • For some of our quantitative opportunities, experience using Python will be important , while familiarity with AI tools, data analysis or automation may also be advantageous , depending on the team.
