Job description

Job Description

An opportunity to join our growing architectural team in Bristol, Birmingham or Glasgow.

We’re busy working on a wide variety of exciting projects across many markets for both public and private sector organisations. Our main markets are aviation, defence and transportation, but we also do interesting work in a number of other sectors too, such as education, energy and justice.

Our architectural team works at all RIBA stages, providing architectural services and technical support from conceptual study and planning stages to detailed technical information. We use BIM extensively in our projects, so Revit experience is beneficial for this position.

To apply for this position, you’ll have up to 12 months Part 1 work experience and have just completed your Part 2 PG diploma, master’s or similar, and be looking for your Part 2 practical experience. As a Part 2 architectural assistant at Mott MacDonald, you’ll benefit from working for a large multidisciplinary organisation and be part of a dynamic team supporting our experienced architects and designers. You’ll constantly be exposed to real and exciting projects.

We provide mentoring to architectural graduates, and you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.

This opportunity will require you to be eligible to achieve security clearance, which is dictated by the types of projects we work on and normally requires you to be a UK British national or to have lived in the UK for five years or more.

Candidate Specification

In addition to the qualifications listed above, we’re looking for flexible and motivated postgraduates with a genuine passion for architecture, and a desire to make a difference in the world. Launch your career at Mott MacDonald by demonstrating relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules or previous work experience, in your CV and portfolio.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:

  • Good design skills and a keen interest in the built environment.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, allowing you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail, and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings and good report writing.

The role is available as part‑time or full‑time. Please discuss flexibility during the interview.

What else is involved?

You’ll be enrolled onto Accelerate Your Future, a structured three‑year soft‑skills development programme alongside other graduates in your cohort across our Europe & UK region. In partnership with Cappfinity, we’ve identified the skills that drive success among early‑career talent at Mott MacDonald and have designed a learning experience to enable you to develop these skills through residential events, classroom learning, virtual webinars, and group challenges. This also gives you the opportunity to network and meet other graduates.

We understand that each person’s career goals vary; therefore, we tailor every individual’s development journey to suit them. With our vast library of e‑learning courses available to you, you can choose the direction you want your career to go in.

You’re probably wondering what else is on offer. Join us, and you’ll get:

  • Biannual salary reviews – we believe that hard work should be rewarded and recognised, and for the first three years of your career with us, you’ll have biannual salary reviews.
  • A competitive salary – in addition to biannual reviews, we will ensure that you’re given a salary that matches the current industry standard.
  • Contributory pension up to 7% of your salary – with our support, you’ll have all the advice and options you need to invest in your future.
  • A flexible benefits scheme – our company offers a range of benefits you can manage to suit your specific needs, including season‑ticket loans, restaurant discounts, and gym membership.
