Job description

Professional Apprenticeship – Trainee Security Engineer

We're looking for bright and motivated school leavers who will bring energy, new ideas, and a fresh perspective to help us become the recognised leader and transform the construction and engineering industry.

Through our unique approach, we are setting higher standards for our industry and redefining the future of construction.

In response to recent regulatory changes, we're building our capability and competence around Fire Safety in Buildings, which is critical to delivering safe buildings during construction and in use. As a result of this, there are new roles developing in the industry, with passive fire protection (PFP) becoming a specialist area of integration throughout design, delivery, and handover of projects. This creates an unusually dynamic career opportunity at entry level.

PFP is an integral component of a fire safety strategy and forms an essential element of the fire protection and fire safety in a building. PFP systems are used to slow and prevent the spread of fire and smoke between fire compartment walls and floors. PFP impacts all aspects of building design and is often a critical interface between the architecture, structure, and building services systems.

If you're curious about technical design, collaboration, package delivery, quality, innovation, and knowledge sharing, then this role will be of interest to you.

Role Overview

We partner with our design consultants, suppliers, and installers to take a systems approach to engineering solutions for buildings. We harness digital tools and capability to design and deliver solutions efficiently from concept to handover. This ensures greater predictability of cost, quality, programme, and safety for our clients. Through the provision of smarter engineering-led solutions – focused on whole-life value and long-term performance - our technical team ensures the full benefits of this approach are realised for our clients.

A Trainee Security Engineer will provide valuable support to our technical function and project delivery teams as we achieve our business priorities and client requirements. They are part of the MEICA Fire family, which works in close alignment with the Technical Function and interfaces with our business functions and operations.

A Trainee Security Engineer will need to develop a technical knowledge of multiple building systems such as supporting constructions, building services, and safety-critical building fabric. They will be working primarily with the PFP Technical Manager under the project PFP Technical Leader who will support their day-to-day learning and development needs. They can expect to be involved with a range of our technical and operations activities. For example:

  1. Design development and management
  2. Procurement
  3. Sub-contractor management
  4. Planning and project controls
  5. Knowledge sharing and industry best practice
  6. Assurance and compliance

Throughout your career with us, you will be given development and support from our experienced teams and work within an environment that allows you to thrive.
