Job summary

The Vision Impairment Service seeks a Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant to support children with vision impairment in Pontypool. The Vision Impairment Service (VIS) is seeking a Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant to support children and young people with vision impairment. Responsibilities include planning, delivering, and assessing learning activities, supporting an inclusive ethos, and assisting qualified teachers and habilitation specialists in providing access to learning, independent living skills, and mobility training.

The role involves developing skills in using specialist equipment and digital technology, supporting literacy, numeracy, and well-being, and preparing tailored activities. The candidate must be able to travel independently, hold a full driving license, and undergo an enhanced DBS check. Welsh language skills are essential for at least one position.

Qualifications / Experience:

Essential:

  • NNEB, BTEC, NVQ, or similar in child development
  • Willingness to work towards a Braille qualification
  • Understanding of VI and its implications
  • Experience working with children with vision impairment
  • Welsh language skills

Desirable:

  • Intervenor Accreditation (Sense)
