Job Description:

We are seeking 2 Specialist Biomedical Scientists for the Microbiology Department at Northwick Park Hospital, HA1 3UJ. These roles are available due to retirement and internal promotion.

Key details:

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing and testing patient specimens
  • Reading culture plates, interpreting results, and performing antibiotic sensitivities
  • Performing PCR testing for various organisms
  • Operating and troubleshooting automated systems
  • Reporting results to clinicians
  • Training new staff members
  • Proposing improvements and validating new equipment
  • Working as part of a 24/7 team

Applicants must be registered with HCPC and have post-registration bacteriology experience equivalent to a specialist diploma.

  • Lates: 1.30 pm to 10.00 pm
  • Nights: 8.15 pm to 8.30 am

Applicants should be willing to work these shifts or nights exclusively, with a full-time 37.5-hour week.

Role Details:

This role involves working in a modern, well-equipped microbiology department with a diverse workload and advanced automation systems. You will contribute to diagnostic services across multiple hospitals and clinics, with opportunities for professional development and contribution to service improvements.

Candidate Requirements:

Registered Biomedical Scientist with HCPC and relevant bacteriology experience at specialist diploma level or higher.

Includes meeting the team, lab tour, competency questions, and a practical test.
