Job Description:

The Role

  • Work on dock bottom lift, scheme design, and controlled design.
  • Build and construct new fences, turnstiles, access perimeters, and CCTV systems.
  • Install new electrical systems and remove existing HVAC systems.
  • Upgrade facility markings, including pedestrian markings.

Experience required

  • Ideally, experience working for Babcock on a licensed Nuclear site.
  • Knowledge or experience of Defence or other licensed sites, understanding of Nuclear safety cases and requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and mark up engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of Eurocode (not essential).
  • Proficiency in MathCAD (essential).

Overview

Supporting the MoD's submarine and warship programmes through infrastructure investment at Devonport. The Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) Business Unit manages this, with the Dock Readiness project delivering infrastructure upgrades for a nuclear-licensed dry dock used for submarine defuels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Design Manager in delivering project scope, including drafting technical documentation, overseeing 3D models, and managing design records.
  • Support updating project documents and converting existing design records into 3D models.
  • Maintain technical and project registers and support planning activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical handling, systems/services, and mechanical design, including modifications and commissioning.
  • Proven track record in regulated environments, preferably in nuclear or defence industries.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety-led engineering processes and documentation control.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, MathCAD, and other relevant software.
  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
