132KV Commissioning Engineer

Job summary

JAM is seeking an experienced 132kV Commissioning Engineer to support delivery of major HV/EHV projects across the UK. You will lead testing, energisation and commissioning of substations and grid connections, working with project teams and site personnel.

The role requires strong fault-finding, protection and control knowledge, ability to read SLDs and schematics, and prior DNO/ICP experience. Travel across the UK will be involved with strict safety and standards adherence.

Qualifications

• Strong commissioning experience within HV/EHV substations or grid infrastructure.
• Experience with HV switchgear, transformers, CTs/VTs and related equipment.
• Experience with protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, Schneider, GE or SEL.
• Ability to read and interpret SLDs, schematics and protection drawings.
• Experience working on DNO/ICP/transmission or private network projects.

Responsibilities

• Carry out commissioning activities on HV/EHV systems up to 132kV.
• Test and commission primary and secondary electrical equipment.
• Commission protection and control systems, including relays and schemes.
• Complete functional testing, point-to-point checks and secondary injection testing.
• Support transformer, switchgear, CT/VT and auxiliary system commissioning.
• Review commissioning documentation, test sheets and protection settings.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during testing and energisation.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Protection Engineers, SAPs and site teams.
• Support pre-energisation checks and final handover documentation.
• Ensure all works are completed safely and in line with standards.

The Role

We are working with a growing UK power infrastructure contractor looking for an experienced 132kV Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of major HV and EHV projects across the UK.

You will be responsible for testing, commissioning and energisation activities across substations, grid connections and associated electrical infrastructure, working closely with project, protection, design and site teams.

• Carry out commissioning activities on HV/EHV systems up to 132kV.
• Test and commission primary and secondary electrical equipment.
• Commission protection and control systems, including associated relays and schemes.
• Complete functional testing, point-to-point checks and secondary injection testing.
• Support transformer, switchgear, CT/VT and auxiliary system commissioning.
• Review commissioning documentation, test sheets and protection settings.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during testing and energisation.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Protection Engineers, SAPs and site teams.
• Support pre-energisation checks and final handover documentation.
• Ensure all works are completed safely and in line with client, DNO and industry standards.

Experience Required

• Strong commissioning experience within HV / EHV substations or grid infrastructure.
• Previous experience working at 132kV.
• Good understanding of protection and control systems.
• Experience with HV switchgear, transformers, CTs, VTs and associated equipment.
• Competent with secondary injection and protection relay testing.
• Ability to read and interpret SLDs, schematics and protection drawings.
• Experience working on DNO, ICP, transmission or private network projects.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working independently on live project sites.
• Previous DNO / IDNO commissioning experience.
• Experience with protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, Schneider, GE or SEL.
• Relevant HV authorisations or switching experience.
• Experience across BESS, Solar, Data Centres or major grid connection projects.
