Job summary

A leading medical research institution in Edinburgh is looking for a research technician to support cancer research using zebrafish models. Candidates should have a BSc in biological sciences and experience in laboratory management. Grade UE05: £29,588 - £33,951 per annum

CMVM / Edinburgh Medical School / Biomedical Sciences

Full time, 35 hours per week

Fixed term: 16 months





The Opportunity:

We are looking for a research technician to support the laboratory of Dr Dirk Sieger.

Within our Cancer Research UK funded work, we use the zebrafish as a model to understand the role of microglia during glioblastoma growth. You will be part of an international team and provide assistance to the research team, will execute general laboratory management and manage the zebrafish lines. The post requires a BSc or equivalent in biological sciences with clear evidence of skilled and independent research capability. Laboratory experience is essential. Experience in laboratory management and zebrafish husbandry is highly advantageous.


This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and is fixed-term for 16 months initially with the option of extension.



Your skills and attributes for success:

A degree in an area of Biology.
Expertise in zebrafish husbandry and techniques required to work with the model organism, such as maintenance and breeding, generation of transgenic zebrafish, chemical treatment of larval zebrafish, zebrafish imaging, immunohistochemistry.
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
Effective recording and communication skills to aid collation and interpretation of results.
