Job description

Grade UE06: £34,132 to £39,355 per annum

CMVM / Deanery of Clinical Sciences

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: 24 months



The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to support the technical operations of a dynamic basic science, translational and clinical research laboratory focused on Type 1 Diabetes and beta cell transplantation. The post holder will perform advanced cell culture, biochemical assays (including ELISA), and sample analysis, while contributing to a range of ongoing research projects. They will work closely with senior researchers to manage lab resources, maintain equipment, and ensure regulatory compliance through the preparation of risk assessments and SOPs. Strong organisational skills, the ability to learn new techniques, and a collaborative approach are essential. The successful candidate is expected to have a basic science degree or equivalent and/or experience in relevant laboratory-based research. They will work with an experienced and supportive research team at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian. With regular meetings with the PI; Professor Shareen Forbes, the post holder will gain valuable expertise in the field of diabetes research.

This position is based in the Metabolism, Diabetes and Obesity Theme in the Centre for Cardiovascular Science and the Clinical Research Facility in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.



Your skills and attributes for success:

BSc or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience with relevant laboratory-based research (e.g., Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent).
Experience in laboratory and procedural work, cell culture maintenance, ELISAs and immunohistochemical techniques.
Ability to multi task and work well in a team.
Experience in experimental technical support, including data processing, study records and control of laboratory stocks.
