Job summary

Royal Cornwall Hospital is seeking a 12-month replacement locum consultant in trauma and orthopaedics. The role focuses on delivering a high-quality trauma service while preserving elective practice to maintain skills.

A lower limb specialist interest is welcome, and involvement in MDTs, governance, and teaching is expected. Entry requires a full GMC licence to practise and a higher orthopaedic surgical qualification.

Qualifications

• Fluent English to IELRS level 7.5.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adapting style to the audience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high-quality trauma service.
• Maintain the highest clinical standards in managing orthopaedic surgical patients.
• Maintain an elective interest to suit service needs, alongside a strong trauma workload.
• Share day-to-day management of the trauma and orthopaedic workload with colleagues.
• Teach and train junior staff and medical students.
• Take responsibility for active participation in continuing medical education.
• Take an active part in departmental and Trust clinical governance and audit.
• Attend meetings as appropriate.
• Cover the weekly timetable, including out-of-hours responsibilities.
• Take a full part in local MDT processes.
