Job description

Elm Tree Primary Academy is a brand new special school in Sandwell for autistic pupils from Reception to Year 6 who have additional learning needs, located on Friar Park Road, Wednesbury.

This is an exciting opportunity for Victoria Academies Trust to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher. We welcome applications from teachers with a range of experience working with autistic pupils with additional learning needs. The position offers the chance to be part of a small team and grow with the school as it reaches full capacity by September 2025.

Main Purpose

  1. Be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in the class, ensuring equality of opportunity.
  2. Achieve the highest standards in work and conduct, being accountable for your responsibilities.
  3. Build respectful relationships with pupils, treating them with dignity and observing professional boundaries.
  4. Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/carers, external agencies, and other stakeholders.
  5. Work within statutory frameworks and adhere to current teacher standards.
  6. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people.

Subject Management: TBC

  • Share responsibility for the coordination of a subject or school area
  • Develop and monitor a curriculum area, contributing to the School Improvement Plan
  • Assist in the review of school policies relevant to your phase and subject responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibility

The post holder will supervise and deploy teaching assistants within the class team.

School teachers are required to perform duties outlined in the Teachers Pay and Conditions document.

An online search will be conducted on shortlisted candidates. This does not influence the shortlisting process but will be discussed at interview if concerns arise.

This role requires fluency in spoken and written English, in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check and disclosure of any relevant convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings not protected under the Act.

Hours:

Full-time, 12-month fixed-term from 01/09/2025 to 31/08/2026 (maternity cover).

Salary:

TMS M1 – M6 + SEN allowance.
