Job Description:

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) school, providing 1-to-1 support to a child on the autistic spectrum. The child is 12 years old and requires specialised support to access the curriculum and participate in school activities. Responsibilities: As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the child to provide 1-to-1 support in various classroom and school settings. You will assist the child in accessing the curriculum, adapting materials and resources as needed to meet their individual needs. You will provide support with reading, writing, and other academic tasks, as well as help with communication and social skills development. You will also support the child in managing their behaviour, implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions as directed by the teacher or SENCO. Building a positive relationship with the child, establishing routines, and providing emotional support will be important aspects of this role. You will work closely with the teacher and other professionals to implement individualized plans to address the child's specific needs and goals. Qualifications and Experience: To be considered for this role, you should have experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a special education setting, preferably with children with severe learning difficulties and autism. You should have a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by children on the autistic spectrum and those with severe learning difficulties. Familiarity with different communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, would be advantageous. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with the child, teachers, and other professionals. Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the child's individual needs and learning style are essential in this role. Relevant qualifications and certifications, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or Autism Awareness, would be beneficial. Join our supportive and inclusive team and make a meaningful impact on the life of a child with severe learning difficulties and autism. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide specialized 1-to-1 support and contribute to the child's educational and social development. To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter detailing your relevant experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will be subject to background checks and safeguarding procedures.
