Job description

ABC Teachers is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis in an SEN Primary School in Rugby on a full-time basis.

Working with a student who requires additional support. This role is crucial in helping the student access the curriculum and achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

About the role:

  • Providing tailored support to a student with, autism/ADH, Social Emotional Mental Health and speech and language needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) or support plans.Work closely with the class teacher to monitor progress and adapt support as needed.
  • Encourage the student s independence, confidence, and social interaction.
  • Support with classroom tasks, preparation of resources, and record-keeping as required.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment.
  • The role is on a full-time basis with the possibility to be ongoing for the right candidate.

About the school:

  • A primary school setting that caters to young learners aged 5 to 11, with an emphasis on providing extensive support, particularly for those with additional needs, supporting a range of needs including:- Social Emotional Mental Health, Autism/ADHD and non-verbal pupils.
  • The school has a learning environment where resources and activities are consistently available for pupils to engage with. This approach supports self-directed learning, helping children develop independence and decision-making skills, while also providing a structured foundation for more focused learning sessions.
  • The school prioritises language development, offering speech and language therapy as an integral part of the school day, which is particularly beneficial for children with communication difficulties or those who need additional support with literacy and language skills.

About you:

To be considered for the 1:1 Teaching Assistant position, you will:

  • Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
  • Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
  • Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach.
  • Strong behaviour management techniques.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
