Job summary

Engage Education is seeking a caring 1:1 Support Mentor for a specialist SEMH school in Preston. The role focuses on personalised 1:1 support and small group mentoring to help students build confidence, relationships and learning resilience.

You will work closely with teachers and the pastoral team, providing tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs and helping them engage with school routines.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour.
• Patience, calm demeanor and strong relationship-building skills.
• Ability to support students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Maintain consistent boundaries with a caring approach.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Passion for helping young people reach their potential.
• Previous experience in Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or similar is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs.
• Support small groups to develop learning, social skills and confidence.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Help students manage emotions, regulate behaviour and coping strategies.
• Encourage engagement with learning and school routines.
• Support resilience, independence and self-esteem.
• Act as a positive role model and work with teachers and pastoral team.
