Job description

Location: Manchester
Salary: £89 - £95 per day
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time (long-term placement, with possible permanent opportunity)

A supportive and diverse secondary school in Manchester is looking for an empathetic and skilled 1:1 Support Assistant to work closely with students who have a variety of needs including SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and other neurodiverse conditions. This is an ideal role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and has experience in behaviour support or therapeutic settings.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Working 1:1 with a student who has an EHCP and requires consistent adult support throughout the school day.

  • Assisting in managing anxiety, focus, and emotional regulation, using tailored behavioural and communication strategies.

  • Supporting the child’s academic, social, and personal development across various subjects.

  • Liaising with parents, SENCOs and external professionals as required.

  • Creating and maintaining a positive, structured, and emotionally safe environment to support learning and well-being.

What You Bring:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young adults with additional needs (SEMH, ASC, ADHD, etc.)

  • Training or awareness of Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation techniques is desirable.

  • Strong emotional intelligence and a genuine commitment to student welfare.

  • The ability to stay calm under pressure, provide consistent routines, and foster resilience.
