Job Title: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (Autism Support)
Location: Irlam, Manchester

About Us

We are a welcoming and inclusive mainstream school in Irlam, Manchester, committed to providing high-quality education and dedicated support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are looking for a compassionate and proactive 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support for a student with autism, helping them to thrive in a nurturing learning environment.

Role Overview

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the classroom teacher, SEND coordinator, and other professionals to support the individual learning and development needs of a student with autism. Your role will be vital in fostering an inclusive, engaging, and structured setting that encourages growth, confidence, and independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Individualised Learning Support: Adapt and implement learning activities to meet the student’s specific needs and abilities.
  • Communication & Engagement: Foster positive communication and social interactions, using tailored strategies to support engagement.
  • Emotional & Well-being Support: Provide a safe and structured environment to promote confidence, emotional well-being, and self-regulation.
  • Adapt Teaching Approaches: Modify teaching methods and materials to support the student’s individual learning style.
  • Collaboration with Specialists: Work alongside professionals such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists to implement recommended interventions.
  • Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate records of the student’s progress and behaviour, sharing updates with teachers and parents.
  • Participation in Review Meetings: Contribute to team discussions and support plans to ensure the best possible outcomes for the student.
What We’re Looking For
  • A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Experience working with children with autism or SEND is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to support individual learning needs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
