Harewood C of E Primary School in Leeds is looking for a committed 1:1 SEND Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil with Down Syndrome starting September 2025. This full-time role will involve providing tailored support for the pupil to reach their full potential and assisting in the classroom environment.
Harewood C of E Primary School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative 1:1 Learning Support Assistant for a delightful pupil with Down Syndrome.
Your role will be to support the pupil 1:1 to enable them to access their curriculum and reach their full potential. Whilst working in the classroom setting there will also be opportunities to support other children within the class. This is a varied role that will require flexibility and a positive attitude.
Starting in September 2025, this is a full-time role for 1 year that will cover maternity leave for an existing staff member. As the post is to provide 1:1 support for a child the position is also dependent on the child remaining at the school and funding remaining in place.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to make a difference to a pupil’s experience of education. The successful candidate will be required to work with a pupil who will be working in Year 2 but is working significantly below his chronological age. Whilst the role is specifically to support 1:1 there will also be opportunities to work more widely within the classes.
Applicants should have:
* Experience working with young children with SEND
* Experience of communicating with a child who is pre-verbal
* Experience of using Makaton to support communication difficulties
* Have a high expectation for achievement and behaviour
* GCSE's or equivalent, including Maths and English
* Willingness and ability to obtain and/or enhance qualifications and training for development in the post.
* Experience of working in a school
* An ability to work flexibly and use their own skills and initiative to enhance learning.

The hours of work will be 30.4 hours per week from 8.40am to 3.15pm term time only. You will not routinely be expected to attend school Teacher Training Days but maybe invited to do so where the training is relevant to the role.
