Job summary

Academics Ltd in Cheltenham is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs across mainstream primary and secondary schools. The role focuses on personalised learning, social and emotional development, and helping pupils engage confidently with the curriculum.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and school staff to tailor assistance to individual goals, tracking progress and contributing to an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting children with SEN is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
• The ability to provide two recent professional references.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and helping them reach their potential.
• Excellent communication, patience and a positive, nurturing approach.
• The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's individual needs.
• Support pupils to participate in and engage with classroom activities.
• Implement personalised strategies and interventions to support learning and development.
• Encourage pupils' confidence, independence and social development.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and help create a supportive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other members of the school team.
• Maintain clear communication regarding pupil progress and development.
• Support pupils in achieving their individual learning and development targets.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and access the curriculum effectively.
