Prospero Teaching seeks a passionate 1:1 Tutor in Sunderland to support secondary school pupils temporarily excluded from mainstream schooling. This role includes traveling to pupils' homes, planning engaging lessons, and fostering positive relationships to ensure effective learning. Ideal candidates should have relevant qualifications and a genuine passion for teaching.

Qualifications

  • An Enhanced DBS is preferred; can be processed if not available.
  • Experience teaching within the UK with strong knowledge of the National Curriculum.
  • Genuine passion for teaching along with a positive and resilient attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and tutor secondary school pupils who have been excluded on a 1:1 basis.
  • Plan and teach engaging lessons tailored to a wide range of SEN.
  • Manage challenging behaviour and assess pupil progress effectively.

Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, proactive and enthusiastic 1:1 Tutor to support the learning of pupils in their homes and based in one of our inspirational PRU Settings in Sunderland. This is a fantastic and unique opportunity to build positive relationships with pupils and have a long-term, positive impact on their lives, progress and development.

About the Role:
* The role will involve Teaching and Tutoring Secondary School aged pupils who have been temporarily excluded from mainstream School on a 1:1 basis in their home.
* The role will involve travelling to different pupils houses for Tutoring sessions so it is essential that the successful Candidate is able to drive and has full access to a car. Mileage will be paid at 40p per mile on top of a competitive daily rate.
* Planning and teaching engaging and informative lessons that inspire pupils with a wide range of SEN and allows all pupils to make progress.
* Building positive relationships with pupils and their parents to create excellent learning environments.
* Managing challenging behaviour in a positive, proactive and consistent manner
* Differentiating lessons appropriately to suit the needs and earning styles of all pupils.
* Using varied methods of assessment to assess pupil progress
* Displaying high levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with children.
* Working effectively with Teaching Assistants to ensure children receive the best possible educational experience

About the School:
* The role will be based in the homes of pupils but you will also spend time planning at an inspirational PRU setting in Sunderland.
* The School supports pupils across the Secondary School age range and there are opportunities to support pupils across all years groups depending on your preference and specialism.

Pay, Hours and Contract:
* Pay – Between £130-180 per day
* Hours –
* Contract – Full-time until the end of the Academic Year in July 2025. Temporary Contract.
* Start Date – ASAP.
* Location – Sunderland

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:
* An Enhanced DBS (ideally on the Update Service but this is not essential as we can process a new one for you)
* QTS (desired), or HLTA/Tutoring Qualification and experience
* Strong Behaviour Management skills
* Experience of utilising a range of methods to assess pupil progress
* Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum
* Strong relationship-building skills with an ability to build rapport
* A positive and resilient attitude towards Teaching and work
* Experience of Teaching within the UK
* A genuine passion for Teaching
* Strong organisation and communication skills
