About Me
I am a female in my 50’s with a diagnosis of Epilepsy which is well controlled with medication; I also have a profound learning disability, and I am non-verbal. I am looking for individuals to support me at Rix House Residential Care Home in Keighley and out in my local community.
It is very important to me, that I have a staff team that understands my various conditions and they are patient and understanding towards me as sometimes I can be quite energetic, and I will therefore need staff to keep me safe. I need a consistent approach with my support and need encouragement throughout the day to help me with my eating and drinking, personal hygiene, moving and handling and other activities that I may like to complete, it is also important to let me progress at my own pace.
Even though I am non-verbal I can understand some things that are said to me such as my name, therefore communication is very important to me, and staff must get to know me well and understand my communication preferences when supporting me.
I enjoy lots of activities in and out of the community which include sensory stories, watching TV, accessing the sensory room at Rix House, pampering sessions, visits to local parks, cafés and shopping centres, I also like to be supported to face time my mum and dad 3 times a week and visit them at home when possible as I have a very proactive, positive and close relationship with my family who are very involved with me. When out in the community I sometimes need to use my manual wheelchair to keep me safe, I will need staff to support me with this, I also have a bus pass, and I am happy to travel on public transport or by taxi.
I need full support with my daily living tasks, and I have some intolerances to food that you will need to support me with, I have robust support plans and risk assessments in place that you will need to read to help you to get to know me.

We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too. Please note accredited training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months, and may include Diplomas and apprenticeships in health and social care.
What will I be doing?
