Job description

1:1 Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

North Manchester Full-Time Long-Term Opportunity Aspire People

Aspire People are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Mentor to support two Year 6 pupils at one of our partnered schools in North Manchester.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity, with the successful candidate providing 1:1 support to both pupils throughout the school day. The day will be split between the two pupils, who have different support needs and benefit from a consistent, patient, and relationship-led approach.

The Role
You will support pupils to:
  • Manage and regulate their emotions
  • Remain settled and engaged in the classroom
  • Access learning and overcome barriers to education
  • Develop positive relationships with staff and peers
  • Follow routines, boundaries, and expectations
  • Build confidence, independence, and resilience
  • Respond positively to support and intervention strategies

You will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team to provide consistent support and adapt your approach to each pupil's individual needs.

About the Pupils

One pupil can display challenging behaviour, including leaving the classroom and finding it difficult to remain settled and engaged. This pupil will benefit from someone who is calm, consistent, resilient, and confident in building trust while maintaining clear boundaries.

The second pupil is generally sociable and personable but can require support when becoming frustrated or emotionally heightened. Positive relationships, emotional regulation, and helping the pupil to reset are key parts of the role.

Both pupils respond well to shared interests and positive interactions. The role would particularly suit someone who is active, sporty, or has experience in sports coaching, youth work, mentoring, behaviour support, or a similar setting. An interest in football or other activities could be a valuable way to build rapport and encourage engagement.

The Ideal Candidate

We would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience supporting:

  • Challenging behaviour
  • SEND and SEMH
  • Emotional regulation
  • 1:1 pupil support
  • Behaviour intervention
  • Children or young people in education, youth work, sports, or mentoring settings
You will need to be:
  • Calm, patient, and consistent
  • Resilient when progress takes time
  • Confident building trusting relationships
  • Comfortable supporting challenging behaviour
  • Able to establish clear boundaries and expectations
  • Adaptable and willing to respond to individual needs
  • Confident working independently on a 1:1 basis
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Passionate about helping pupils develop confidence and independence

Previous experience within a school is desirable, although strong transferable experience working with children or young people will also be considered.

Aspire People is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects every candidate to share this commitment.
