Job description

This post is a 6 month fixed term/secondment opportunity

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to recruit a Sister/Charge Nurse to our Emergency Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic registered nurse with a passion for Emergency Nursing to join our friendly team in ED.

We manage approximately 105,000 attendances annually with an admission rate of 25%. Paediatric patients comprise approximately a quarter of our total new attendances. In addition, the department provides review clinics for ED attendees on weekday mornings, with input from senior medical staff and nurse practitioners.

When you join our team, you become part of a dynamic and progressive nursing workforce and a dedicated team led by Matron, Lead Nurses, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Clinical Practitioners with a variety of professional backgrounds. We also work alongside a team of 23 ED Consultants and multiple junior doctors. There is 24-hour senior doctor cover in the department.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the responsibility to take a lead role in the coordination, planning, and delivery of individual care provided by the multidisciplinary team in the department by ensuring the effective management of the Department in the absence of the lead nurse.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care so that adjustments can be made within their sphere of responsibility.

The post holder will take a lead role in promoting clinical excellence through their practice, participating in evidence-based practice.

The post holder will ensure that all nursing documentation is complete, up to date, and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.

The post holder is expected to take a lead role in facilitating, educating, supervising, supporting, and developing both qualified and unqualified staff within their sphere of responsibility on a daily basis.
