The Engineering for Sustainable Development Research Centre, the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) and the Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence (AIME) are seeking to appoint three Early Career Researchers (ERCs) from Thailand for 12 months. The fellowships, funded by the British Council under the UK’s International Science Partnerships scheme (ISPF), aim to provide the selected early career researchers with a strong foundation to improve their careers in research and innovation to respond to the developmental needs of Thailand.

The fellows will be exposed to the burgeoning area of naturally derived biochemicals, capitalising on the strong agricultural potential of Thailand. These natural products will be used to synthesise sustainable plastics for medical applications, decreasing the current level of plastic pollution in Thailand and beyond. The fellow will take advantage of our involvement in various national and international projects which will be important for establishing their independent career.

The Early Career Researchers (ECRs) should be residents of Thailand, have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline, will not have held a permanent academic post or a post with a research-related element, or one which allowed them to supervise PhD students or submit research grants as a principal investigator. Time spent in teaching-only roles or academic related roles does not affect ECR status, provided no research element was part of the role.

Participants from for-profit organisations cannot be funded.

Applicants should currently not receive financial support or funding towards any other programme in the UK from any other sources.

This role is likely to meet the criteria for endorsement under the ‘Endorsed Funder’ route of the Global Talent visa. The Global Talent visa route is available for talented and promising academics, researchers and specialists who are working in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, the social sciences or the humanities.
