About Eligo

Eligo Bioscience, backed by top-tier investors from Silicon Valley and Europe, is pioneering next-generation microbiome therapeutics. Co-founded by MIT and Rockefeller University scientists, Eligo is headquartered in Paris, France. Our mission is to address unmet medical needs in inflammatory and infectious diseases, as well as oncology, through groundbreaking gene-editing medicines.

Our first-in-class synthetic biology platform has earned Eligo numerous international awards and recognition, including being named one of the World Economic Forum’s “30 Most Innovative Companies” and has been featured in international press Nature, Science, The Economist, BBC, The New York Times, etc.

More recently, our latest work was published in Nature last year (In situ targeted base editing of bacteria in the mouse gut).

The role

As part of the Translational Pharmacology team, you will contribute to the generation of pivotal preclinical data to support the development of Eligo’s programs towards the clinic.

You will join a team of translational scientists with strong experience in the set up and execution of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models across various fields (immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology) to support the preclinical development of Eligo’s programs either internally or in collaboration with external partners. You will report to the translational pharmacology team lead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and oversee hands-on experiments across in vivo (rodents), ex vivo (human or rodent primary cells and tissues), and in vitro (cell lines, bacterial cultures) models, employing diverse cellular biology, immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate experimental findings at various meetings involving multidisciplinary teams and/or collaborators.
  • Independently plan experimental paths forward, proactively develop and/or optimize methods, and incorporate new technology/techniques into practice.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentation materials as necessary, and maintain meticulous experimental documentation in electronic lab notebooks in accordance with Eligo’s working practice.
  • Contribute to scientific review meetings and assist in drafting relevant sections of regulatory documents as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment, aiding in the development and well-being of fellow team members while also participating in general lab support operations.
  • Stay aware of recent advancements in the field through literature review and dissemination of data via presentations at scientific conferences when relevant.
Qualifications

Technical skills

Must have:

  • PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology or related fields with a track record of publications.
  • Extensive experience in rodent models of host-pathogen/host-microbiote interactions.
  • Postdoctoral training or previous drug discovery or development experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company setting is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to develop new methods/protocols to support pharmacology studies.
  • Ability to design and run experiments, interpret data, troubleshoot, suggest next steps and identify alternative approaches.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, consistent results in a timely fashion.

Nice to have:

  • Regulatory animal training up to date (study design and/or execution).
  • Hands-on experience in models of bacterial colonization of the intestine, in particular Clostridia species, or the skin.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, qPCR/ddPCR, ELISA, Western Blotting.
  • Hands-on experience in cancer research (cell culture, in vivo and organoïds models).
