Ready to spread your wings? What if your journey started with us? Whatever your dream job may be, we might have the right internship for you! Are you a student looking for an internship or a gap-year placement that will validate your degree and take your career off the ground? Picture yourself at the heart of an internationally recognized company, established across all continents and enriched by a diversity of backgrounds, expertise, and cultures. Focused on digital tech, at the cutting edge of research and innovation, you will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting adventure. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: An internship position titled “Physical AI & Cobotics Internship (m/f)” has just opened within Airbus Commercial Aircraft at its Toulouse site. You will join the Robotics Functions & Software Design center of expertise within the Automation & Robotics Manufacturing Engineering department (OMRTP)—an agile team dedicated to developing advanced robotics and embodied artificial intelligence for future aeronautical manufacturing systems. Your internship will involve deploying an operational Physical AI demonstrator on a sensitive 7-axis collaborative robot (cobot), combining high-fidelity multi-physics simulation, sensorimotor learning, and low-latency torque control to perform compliant assembly tasks and reactive manipulation on aeronautical components. This 6-month internship will ideally begin between January and February 2027 (this timeframe is indicative and subject to adjustment). Your main responsibilities will include: Digital Twin Construction: Modeling the kinematics, force dynamics, and sensory loads of the sensitive 7-axis cobot within a multi-physics simulation engine. Physical AI Model Development: Designing and training deep reinforcement learning (Sim-to-Real) and visuo-tactile policies dedicated to high-contact assembly tasks. Sim-to-Real Transfer on the Physical Cobot: Deploying and executing simulated policies on the real cobot arm using C++, Python, ROS 2, and real-time low-latency torque control interfaces. Standardized Software Integration: Encapsulating physical AI algorithms into modular and reusable software blocks compliant with Airbus's cross-functional execution architecture. Deployment & Characterization: Commissioning the complete demonstrator on a physical test bench, establishing performance benchmarks (cycle time, force thresholds, robustness), and showcasing the resulting dexterity. Your tutor will guide you throughout your internship, helping you develop your skills and reach your professional goals. This internship will enable you to develop the following skills: Full mastery of embodying AI algorithms on real-time physical hardware (Sim-to-Real) Expertise in torque/impedance control, dynamic feedback control, and control of 7-axis sensitive cobots Advanced practice with ROS 2, C++, and Python applied to industrial robotic software architectures Execution of tests and benchmarks on real robotic cells and test benches in an aeronautical environment.
Your boarding pass for this adventure: You are currently in your final year of a Master's degree or Engineering School (Master 2 level), specializing in Robotics, Mechatronics, Industrial Computing, or Embodied / Physical Artificial Intelligence. Ideally, you possess the following skills: Technical Skills: Proven proficiency in C++ and Python programming Hands-on experience with modular robotic middlewares (ROS 2) and real-time execution constraints Theoretical and applied knowledge of manipulator kinematics/dynamics and torque/impedance control Knowledge of physics simulation engines and deep learning libraries Soft Skills: Analytical rigor, autonomy, and a passion for hands-on experimentation on physical test benches Team spirit and the ability to thrive in an agile engineering organization Languages: English: Fluent (essential for documentation, software integration, and technical meetings) French: An asset.
