Helsing in Paris seeks a hands-on Staff Software Engineer to anchor architectural decisions, shipping robust Rust/Python code across backend systems. You’ll own zero-to-one prototyping to deployed software on embedded hardware and ML inference pipelines at the tactical edge.

You will mentor engineers, drive large-scale features, and translate complex designs for non-technical stakeholders, partnering with product managers and customers in a mission‑driven, ethically conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Proven track record writing legible, maintainable, performance-optimised systems code.
• Systems-level thinker who can design end-to-end integrated solutions.
• Strong English communication, able to explain complex architectures to diverse audiences.
• Experience running pair programming and peer code reviews.
• Senior-to-staff level backend development with expertise in a systems language (Rust/Java/Go/C++).
• Commitment to ethical considerations in software engineering.

Responsabilités

• Lead reviews of complex code contributions, RFCs and proposals to unblock teammates.
• Architect and implement major features, infrastructure, or products across the stack.
• Bridge the gap between engineering and business by translating designs for non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers, grow the team and improve the interviewing process.
• Share knowledge through talks, learning groups and office hours.
• Maintain and evolve the tech stack, diagnose issues, and address technical debt.
• Design robust test architectures and benchmarks for reliability and performance.
• Present work at weekly demos to gather feedback and align on progress.
