CNRS, specifically the S3AM group at STMS, seeks a Principal Algorithm Designer and Programmer for a real-time modular synthesis system. The role focuses on designing physical-principle-based algorithms, prototyping in Matlab/Python, and optimizing with low-level parallelisation.

The candidate will engage directly with musicians and work within the CNRS UMR9912, housed at the Institut de recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, addressing acoustics, synthesis and analysis challenges.

Qualifications

• PhD in a technical or mathematical discipline.
• Experience with numerical simulation algorithm design.
• Experience with the physics and acoustics of strings, bars and plates.
• Experience with real-time audio processing.
• Experience with Matlab and Python.

Principal algorithm designer and programmer for a real-time modular synthesis system

• Design of a modular synthesis algorithm, based on physical principles, from first principles (primary).
• Programming in a prototyping environment (Matlab/Python, primary)
• Code acceleration using low-level parallelisation, primary
• Management of control and U/I, secondary
• Direct work with musicians, secondary

The job holder will work within the S3AM group based in the STMS (Sciences et Technologies de la Musique et du Son) research unit (CNRS UMR9912), and housed at the Institut de recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique. This laboratory is concerned with all technical aspects of acoustics and musical sound production, synthesis and analysis.

• Doctorat in a technical or mathematical discipline, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics.
