Description du poste

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest-ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany) and further Units are situated Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).

EMBL Grenoble shares the European Photon and Neutron Science (EPN) Campus with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) and the French national Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS), whose complementary and integrated facilities provide a very rich environment for structural biologists.

EMBL is seeking to recruit a Research Technician in the Research Group of Dr. Leonie Anton at EMBL Grenoble. The Anton group uses cellular structural biology to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions of parasites or bacteria with their hosts. This approach combines methods from cell biology (advanced light microscopy, gene editing) and structural biology (cryo electron microscopy, cryo electron tomography) to investigate host-pathogen interfaces in their cellular environment.

Your role

You will provide specific technical support to research projects of the Anton Group, and assist the lab with experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology, including gene cloning, protein complex purification, cell culture maintenance, stable cell line creation and establishing cell culture protocols in an BSL-2 environment. You are also expected to help with the management of the lab.

Other main tasks include:
  • General laboratory work: maintaining chemical stocks, keeping track of and managing laboratory supplies and ordering.
  • To be responsible for equipment maintenance and repair, including communications with company representatives.
  • To contribute to the training of students and fellows on laboratory practice and the equipment and techniques used.
  • To actively participate in ongoing research projects in the Anton group
You have
  • A degree in a relevant field (biology or related disciplines).
  • Working experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell culture.
  • Project management experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to supervise and collaborate with other research teams.
  • Good knowledge of desktop software applications.
  • In a multi-lingual environment, excellent command of English is mandatory.
You may also have
  • Previous experience working in a BSL-2 safety environment.
  • Fluency in French and other European languages would be an advantage.
Contract length:

5 years. The Anton Lab will open in February 2027. The preferred start date is soon thereafter, to support the setup phase. This role offers the opportunity to play a central part in establishing the lab’s operations and culture within a cutting-edge research environment.

Salary:

Grade 5 (salary starting from EUR 3.568,39 after tax, and before 12,99% EMBL social security deductions, plus other paid benefits)
